Program Purpose

RFSP supports multi-stakeholder partnerships to plan and develop local and regional food economies through public-private partnerships that leverage federal and non-federal resources.

Planning & Design Projects: $100,000 - $250,000
Duration: 24 months
Implementation & Expansion Projects: $250,000 - $1,000,000
Duration: 36 months

Eligible Lead Applicants

• Producer networks or associations
• Community supported agriculture networks
• Food councils
• Local governments
• Nonprofit corporations
• Public benefit corporations
• Economic development corporations
• Regional farmers market authorities
• Tribal governments
Eligible Partners
• State agencies or regional authorities
• Philanthropic corporations
• Institutions of higher education
• Private corporations
• Commercial lending institutions
• Federal lending institutions
• Farm credit system lending institutions
Application Requirements
  • 25% Cash Match: Non-federal cash contribution equal to 25% of federal funds requested (no in-kind contributions allowed for match)
  • Multi-stakeholder Partnership: Must demonstrate collaboration between multiple entities
  • Regional Focus: Projects must support local/regional food system development
  • Measurable Outcomes: Clear metrics for economic impact and food system improvements
  • Public-Private Partnership: Leverage both public and private resources
  • SAM.gov Registration: Must have active System for Award Management registration
  • Grants.gov Account: Required for electronic submission
Program Background

Local Agriculture Market Program (LAMP)

RFSP is part of the Local Agriculture Market Program established in the 2018 Farm Bill. LAMP includes three programs with $26.5 million total funding:

  • Farmers Market Promotion Program (FMPP) - Direct producer-to-consumer marketing
  • Local Food Promotion Program (LFPP) - Local and regional food business enterprises
  • Regional Food System Partnerships (RFSP) - Multi-stakeholder partnerships
